Description
While most standard harp repertoire today consists mainly of late nineteenth- and twentieth-century pieces and keyboard transcriptions, this valuable collection features music originally written for the harp in the early nineteenth century: 1800 to 1850. The three harpist-composers in this edition were all famous virtuoso performers of their day who made enormous contributions to the harp and its repertoire. Nicolas-Charles Bochsa, Elias Parish-Alvars, François-Joseph Dizi composed quite difficult music; however, the six pieces offered in this volume are of an intermediate level, and gorgeous to play.
Works:
- Bochsa: Nocturne in A-Flat Major, No. 1 from Morceau d’expression dans le style de nocturne (3 Nocturnes), Op. 338
- Bochsa: Nocturne in E-Flat Major, No. 2 from Morceau d’expression dans le style de nocturne (3 Nocturnes), Op. 338
- Bochsa: Nocturne in A-Flat Minor, No. 3 from Morceau d’expression dans le style de nocturne (3 Nocturnes), Op. 338
- Alvars: Romance in F Major
- Dizi: Fantasie in E-Flat Major (Etude No. 9) from 48 Etudes for Harp
- Dizi: Fantasie in A-Flat Major (Etude No. 21) from 48 Etudes for Harp
