Some of the more distinctive specifications of the PRS Silver Sky include headstock shape, tuners, bridge, pickups, neck and fingerboard options. The headstock shape is based on PRS’s signature design, but is reversed to suite Mayer’s playing style and to keep the string length behind the nut constant, keeping it in tune. The tuners are traditional vintage-style closed-back tuners, but with a PRS locking design. The steel tremolo features the patented PRS design and features a Generation III knife-edge screws. Setup flush to the body in the neutral position so that the tremolo bridge only goes down in pitch. Due to the increased contact between the bridge and the body, the guitar itself is acoustically louder and the signal-to-noise ratio of single-coil pickups is improved. The 635JM single coil pickups are very round and rich, with a musical high end that is never “ice-picky” or overpowering
The maple fingerboard option comes with the original 635JM neck shape. The neck shape was designed by studying vintage instruments and testing Meyer guitars on stage to find the right feel. The fingerboard radius is 7.25 inches.
Other high-quality specs include a bone nut, molded metal jack plate (curved for easy plugging and unplagging of guitar cables), retooled knobs, and a PRS double-action truss rod (accessed from the front of the headstock for ease of use).
